There are two methods to create parent/child or systems within HEMS One. The first method allows the manager or technician to build the system while adding assets in the equipment management module. The second method is to use the group function to add the parent and identify the parent and then add the children. With the second method, the equipment inventory dashboard displays the parent child relationships. If you believe both solutions meet your requirements, you can use both methods together.
In the images below, you’ll see the application of each method for building your system or parent/child relationships in your inventory. If you are going to perform your planned maintenance on the system, your PM procedure should contain the tasks for each component. When a system does not have all the subcomponents, the technician should mark those steps as skipped or not applicable, depending on your department policy.
Figure 1 The control number field must be unique, but the asset number field can contain duplicates for system building. The control number and asset number are searched simultaneously, so you retrieve the entire system or parent/child.
In fig. 1 above, the parent control number 10055 (1) is entered, and both the parent (3) and child (2 & 4) devices are retrieved for the user. In this example, the asset number of the main component or parent is entered as parent (2).

Identifying the parent or main component is necessary for the equipment inventory dashboard to properly display the parent and child devices.

In fig. 6 above, the parent control number is highlighted (1) and the equipment inventory dashboard displays the child (2) or subcomponents of the system. When a child or subcomponent is highlighted, the parent will be pointed to, and the identifier (2) will be renamed parent.
